The LEO Club officers then led the assembly in the “Pledge of Allegiance”, followed by a brief moment of silence in honor of Spc. Julian Berisford, a John Marshall High School graduate who recently lost his life from injuries he sustained after this Army platoon came under fire in Afghanistan.
Mt. Olivet Lions Club President, Phyllis Amrhein, made a presentation to the school of a new American Flag. Two members from Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Marines from Moundsville were on hand to accept the flag for the students. After the assembly, the students moved outside to the flag pole area where Sgt. Zaruba and Corp. Aldrich assisted in the retirement of the old flag, and displayed the new one.
The retired flag was presented to LEO President Sarah Olson to be displayed inside the building. The ceremony was concluded with Sgt. Morris of the Moundsville Army Reserves raising the West Virginia state flag. |
