PDG Evan Hugus, a Lion from the District I area of West Virginia, was completely
dedicated to helping those with sight problems. He worked closely with the West
Virginia University Eye Institute to ensure that services would be available to those in need in the State of
West Virginia. He was so passionate in his work, that the Institute wanted to show their appreciation by
presenting him with an award that was specifically named for him — “The Evan Hugus Award.” The WV
Eye Institute further made the commitment to PDG Evan that every year that followed the Institute would
present an award in his name to other deserving Lions.
This past year (2009), PDG Evan passed way, but his memory will never be forgotten. Throughout the years that Paul has been a Lion’s member, he worked closely with PDG Evan on several
occasions and they constantly discussed and shared ways to continue services for those in need. He always respected PDG Evan and their close friendship. Lion Paul has also shown passion for the work through the WV Lions Sight Conservation Foundation.
Others receiving this honor are:
Past International Director Robert Browning, Past Council Chairman Steve Glass, Past District Governor Pete Johnson, Past District Governor Teresa Johnson, and Lion Jeff Baxter.
